Mobile Development: Cross Platform Frameworks vs Native

The speaker for the night was Anthony Heath, Owner/Fullstack Developer at Perfektech Solutions, presenting on Cross Platform vs Native Development.

Prior to the main topic, we explored Open Data as a part of NYC Open Data Week. Open Data Week is a citywide festival celebrating New York City, and the free, public data available on NYC Open Data. Create data visualizations, learn how to build an app, count squirrels, and much more. See how NYC runs on data from February 28-March 7 and check out the events at NYC Open Data. Cross Platform vs Native Development by Anthony Heath

We'll compare cross-platform vs native development by discussing the benefits and trade-offs. Introducing the most popular cross-platform frameworks with examples of them in action. Frameworks that will be reviewed: React Native, Ionic, Xamarin, Electron, Unity, Flutter, PhoneGap, NativeScript. If time allows, we'll discuss how modern Progressive Web Apps (PWA) can often fill the need depending on your requirements.

7:35 - 7:50 PM

Open Mic: Show & Tell

We'll be leaving open space at the end of our night for individuals to present projects that they are working on. This will be an opportunity to show off your latest work or to get feedback on that one hard issue in your system.
